Story

A quiet country lane recedes into the distance, lined with trees and flanked by modest buildings, rendered in soft greens, earthy browns, and pale blue tones that suggest open sky above the rooftops. This oil on canvas was completed in 1873 by Alfred Sisley, a painter associated with Impressionism who held French-British citizenship, and the piece now belongs to the Musée d'Orsay collection.

Where it works

A warm-toned landscape suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
