Story

A procession of figures, some bare and some robed, moves across a scene of dark rolling hills, a turquoise lake, and far-off peaks under a soft, pale sky. Arthur Bowen Davies painted this oil work in 1913. Davies, born in 1862 and died in 1928, worked within the Ashcan School in the United States. The piece came to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts as a gift from a friend.
