Story
A rain-slicked Paris street glistens under gas lamps, its surface catching warm amber light against cooler blue shadows. Horse-drawn carriages roll past, while pedestrians move along the sidewalks in the evening quiet. Charles Courtney Curran (1861–1942) painted this scene in oil on panel in 1889. An American painter associated with Impressionism, Curran captured the city's nocturnal mood with attention to atmosphere, and the piece came to its museum through the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
