Story

A rural Connecticut scene unfolds in flattened geometric shapes, with white farm structures and dark rooftops set against green fields, while slim vertical fence posts punctuate the composition in blue, white, black, and green. Charles Sheeler painted this in tempera on board in 1958, applying the crisp, simplified forms associated with Precisionism. The piece entered the New Britain Museum of American Art through the Charles F. Smith Fund.
