Story

The facade of Rouen Cathedral rises in gentle washes of blue, gold, and earthy brown, its carved surface caught in the glare of noon sun. Light seems to dissolve the stone's hard edges into color and atmosphere. This is an oil on canvas completed in 1894 by Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter and graphic artist associated with Impressionism, also known for Haystacks. The painting is held at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
