Story
Jagged cliffs rise above a churning sea, waves breaking white against dark stone while the sky fills with heavy clouds. The painter builds the scene from deep reds, blues, and greens, letting color carry the sense of wind and motion along this wild shoreline. Made in oil in 1886, the piece reflects the Impressionist approach of Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter also known for Haystacks.
