Story
Bands of red, gold, and blue stretch across the canvas in dense fields of dotted color, interrupted by white linear patterns, scattered birds, and dark figures that move through the composition. The layered stripes suggest a landscape marked by movement and growth, built up through countless small points of paint rather than solid shapes. This piece, titled Bush fire dreaming, was made in 1982 using synthetic polymer paint on canvas, and it is held at the Art Gallery of South Australia. The artist, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri (1932–2002), was an Australian First Nation painter also known for his work Warlugulong. One detail worth noticing is how the white patterning cuts across the colored bands, creating a sense of rhythm that pulls the eye along the horizontal sweep of the painting while the small dark figures seem to pause within the flow.
