Two Women on the Beach

Story

Two shapes, one pale and one dark, stand together on a stretch of green shoreline beneath a deep blue sky. The scene is quiet and still, the figures facing the water as if sharing a silent moment. This is a color woodcut made in 1898 by Edvard Munch, a Norwegian artist associated with Expressionism and Symbolism. The print entered the Rijksmuseum through a purchase supported by a dedicated fund.

Where it works
