Looking across the Grand Canyon

Story

A sweeping canyon opens before the viewer, its stacked rock layers rendered in warm browns and cool blues beneath a sky scattered with clouds. The composition stretches far into the distance, suggesting the sheer size of the terrain. Edward Henry Potthast I painted this oil work in 1910, working within American Impressionism. Born in 1857 and died in 1927, he was an American artist. The painting entered the Phoenix Art Museum as a gift from George P. Bickford.
