Story
Deer move through a wooded setting rendered as fractured shapes of red, green, yellow, and blue, their bodies merging with sweeping lines and layered planes until animal and landscape blur together. Franz Marc painted this oil work in 1913, working within Expressionism. The piece entered The Phillips Collection as a gift from the estate of Katherine S. Dreier, where it remains part of the holdings today.
