Fate of the Animals

Story

Jagged shapes of animals splinter across a chaotic field of color, their bodies broken into triangles and shards of red, blue, green, and yellow. The forms seem caught in a collapsing world, pulled apart by the sharp diagonals that cut through the canvas. This oil painting was made in 1913 by Franz Marc, a German painter associated with Expressionism, now held at the Kunstmuseum Basel.
