Story
A small sailboat drifts on quiet water beside a tree-lined shore, while a steep mountain peak rises in the distance under a glow of golden and green light. This oil painting, titled Jamaica, was completed in 1871 by Frederic Edwin Church (1826–1900), an American painter associated with the Hudson River school. The work entered the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art as a gift given in memory of a donor's mother.
