Story
A crowd gathers beneath rows of trees in a park, painted loosely in muted greens, browns, reds, and purples that blur the figures into soft patches of color. The scene feels alive with people moving among the shaded paths. This oil sketch was made in 1901 by Frederick Carl Frieseke, an American painter (1874–1939) associated with Impressionism, whose quick, informal brushwork captures the fleeting atmosphere of the gathering rather than fixed detail.
Where it works
Muted artwork suited to dens and living rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
