Story
A quiet stretch of river unfolds with grassy banks tinted yellow-green, calm blue water, a cluster of buildings along the left side, and trees gathered on the right beneath a soft, pale sky. The scene feels still, as if captured during a moment of midday light along the water's edge. This piece, titled Banks of the Seine near Courbevoie, was created in 1883 using oil on panel, and it is held today at The Hyde Collection. The painter, Georges Seurat (1859–1891), worked within the Neo-impressionist movement, developing a style built on careful, methodical touches of color. One detail worth noticing is how the buildings on the left anchor the composition against the open expanse of water and sky, giving the riverside a sense of quiet balance between structure and nature.
