Story
Tall cypress trees rise above flowering gardens, with distant buildings glimpsed through yellows, greens, pinks, and blues scattered across the scene in small dabs of color. The painting is rendered in oil, completed in 1908. Henri Edmond Cross (1856–1910), a French artist, worked within Neo-impressionism and pointillism, techniques built from careful touches of pure color rather than blended tones, giving the garden its shimmering, luminous quality.
Where it works
