Story
A horse and rider take shape in magenta and blue, set against a bright blue field. Yellow curves swirl around them, while black and white decorative shapes punctuate the composition, giving the whole scene a lively, abstract rhythm. This is plate V from the illustrated book Jazz, made in 1947 using pochoir. The artist, Henri Matisse (1869–1954), French, worked within Fauvism.
