Telegraph Poles with Buildings

Story

A tall telegraph pole rises in the foreground, its silhouette crossed by beams, standing before clustered industrial buildings and dark trees under a blue sky scattered with white clouds. Joseph Stella painted this scene in oil in 1917. His work drew on Futurism and Precisionism, movements that embraced industrial and architectural subjects. The piece belongs to the Terra Foundation for American Art, having entered its collection through the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
