Story

A wine jug and glass break apart into fragmented geometric shapes, rendered in black, white, ochre, and grey against a patterned floor. The forms interlock in flat facets typical of the cubist approach to the subject. This piece was made in oil on panel in 1916. Juan Gris (1887–1927), a Spanish artist, worked within cubism, and his notable works include Carafe and Book.
