Story

Two dark, hovering rectangular shapes sit side by side, separated by a slim line, floating against a saturated blue field. The composition is rendered in indigo ink and acrylic, completed in 1968. The piece came to its collection as a gift from the Mark Rothko Foundation, Inc. Mark Rothko (1903–1970), an American painter associated with abstract expressionism, created the work now held at Yale University Art Gallery.

Where it works

A cool-toned color-field abstract suited to dens and media rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
