Story

A dark brown rectangle hovers vertically at the center of a field washed in burgundy and rust tones, its edges soft against the surrounding color. The composition relies on layered blocks of hue rather than line or figure, letting the contrast between the deep brown and warm reddish ground create quiet tension. Mark Rothko, an American painter (1903–1970), worked within abstract expressionism, exploring color relationships through this untitled piece.

Where it works

A warm-toned color-field abstract suited to dens and media rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
