Story

A hilly terrain rises in forested slopes, with scattered trees set against a cloud-filled sky, painted in blues, greens, yellows, and earth tones. The scene suggests warmth and open air across the land. This oil painting was made in 1907 by Marsden Hartley (1877–1943), an American artist associated with Expressionism and Dada. The piece comes as a promised gift to the Vilcek Foundation.
