Story
Layers of overlapping grids and linear patterns build an abstract geometric arrangement, rendered in warm brown, rust, and gold tones that shift as the shapes cross one another. The piece was made with gouache and watercolour on chalk-primed linen laid down on board in 1924. Paul Klee (1879–1940), a German-Swiss artist associated with the Bauhaus, created this work, titled Curtain, now held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
Where it works
Warm-toned artwork suited to dens and living rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
