Story
Dark, angular shapes suggesting rooftops and structures rise against a night sky of deep blue, while touches of pale green hint at plant life scattered among the forms. The composition leans toward abstraction, built from geometric blocks rather than realistic detail. Paul Klee made this gouache on paper in 1935, titling it Ilfenburg. Klee, German-Swiss (1879–1940), worked within Bauhaus and Expressionist circles. The piece entered the Columbus Museum of Art through a gift from private donors and a dedicated acquisition fund.
