The Girl in the North

Story

A simplified figure stands against a plain background, its hair and bow tie tinted purple, its form traced in black outline with touches of yellow and brown. Paul Klee painted this watercolor titled The Girl in the North in 1939. Klee, a German-Swiss artist associated with Bauhaus, Color Field, and Expressionism, worked with flattened shapes and simple color accents in this piece. The work entered the Yale University Art Gallery as a gift.
