Red lotus with frog

Story

A cluster of lotus blossoms rises in shades of red and white above broad green leaves, their stems reflected in still water where a small brown frog rests nearby. The composition is rendered as a hand-colored engraving, capturing fine detail in the petals and foliage. The piece comes from Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731–1807), a French botanist, entomologist, and jurist whose work documented plant life with careful observation.
