Story

Two white beach houses stand on brown sand, flanked by chairs, a tree, and small figures gathered near the shore. Beyond them, turquoise water stretches toward three green islands, rendered in a flat, direct style that favors pattern over realistic depth. This oil painting was made in 1980 by Ralph Fasanella (1914–1997), an American painter and trade unionist, also known for Subway Riders.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and kids' rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
