Story

Figures gather on a sweep of sand, some seated and others standing at the water's edge, dressed in light clothing that blends softly with the shoreline. The muted beige, blue, and brown tones give the beach a quiet, hazy warmth, as if captured on a calm afternoon by the sea. The piece is painted in oil on canvas on hardboard, dated 1908, by Rupert Bunny (1864–1947), an Australian painter also known for Après le bain.
