Story

Two mythical qilin stand together on a misty mountainside, where a waterfall tumbles past rocks and scattered plants frame the scene. The composition belongs to an album of birds and animals, rendered in ink and color on silk. The piece is attributed to Shen Nanpin, a Chinese painter of the Qing dynasty who lived from 1682 to 1760. It is held at the Phoenix Art Museum.
