Story
A grove of plum trees stands in full bloom, their white blossoms spread across a stretch of green grass under a soft blue sky. Scattered through the grass are small touches of yellow and white, suggesting wildflowers growing beneath the trees. This orchard scene was painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1888 using oil, and it is held today by the National Galleries of Scotland. Van Gogh is known for his painting Sunflowers. Looking closely, the arrangement of trunks and branches across the canvas gives the orchard a sense of rhythm, as though the rows of trees were set down one after another in quick succession, each blossom catching a bit of the pale light from above.
