Story
A quiet stretch of riverbank fills the scene, with lush greenery spread across the near shore, calm blue water running through the middle, and a line of trees along the opposite bank beneath a soft, pale sky. Alfred Sisley painted this view of Saint-Mammes in oil in 1880. Sisley, who lived from 1839 to 1899, worked within the Impressionist movement. The piece entered the Walters Art Museum after being acquired by Henry Walters.
