Story
A quiet waterway runs between rows of Parisian buildings, with bare trees standing along the banks under an overcast sky. The scene is rendered in muted blues, grays, and earthy tones, giving the water and stone facades a soft, hazy harmony. This oil on canvas was created in 1870 by Alfred Sisley (1839–1899), a painter associated with Impressionism, now held at the Musée d'Orsay.
Where it works
A cool-toned landscape suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
