Story

Clouds billow upward in a sky viewed from directly beneath, their rounded masses shifting between white and gray as light catches the textured surfaces of the cumulus forms. This photograph was made in 1926 by Alfred Stieglitz (1864–1946), an American artist associated with the Photo-Secession and straight photography. He worked also as a gallerist and exhibition curator, shaping how photography was seen as art.

Where it works
