Story
A quiet expanse of water stretches toward distant mountains, framed by thick woodland rendered in warm gold and deep green hues, suggesting a calm, open-air scene far from any town. Alfred Thompson Bricher painted this oil work in 1867. Bricher, an American painter (1837–1908), worked within the Hudson River school and Luminism, movements that favored expansive natural views bathed in soft light. The piece came from the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
