The Port of Nice

Story

A busy harbor unfolds across the canvas, with sailboats resting on calm water near figures gathered along the shore. The scene is painted in soft, muted tones, with tan sand and patches of earth color balancing the blue of the water. This oil painting, titled The Port of Nice, was created in 1882 and is held at the Dallas Museum of Art. Berthe Morisot (1841–1895) worked within the Impressionist movement, known for capturing light and everyday scenes with loose, visible brushwork. One detail worth noticing is how the hazy edges of the boats blend into the water, giving the whole harbor a sense of gentle movement and open air.
