Story

Three women dressed in the fashions of the 1870s stand together at a railing, gazing out over Paris, where green fields, the curve of the Seine, and a hazy distant skyline unfold in soft, muted color. The scene was painted in oil in 1871 by Berthe Morisot, a French artist associated with Impressionism. The piece came to the museum as a gift from Mrs. Hugh N. Kirkland.
