Story
A pale vase holds yellow roses and purple blooms, its shadow stretching across a soft pink expanse of sand under an open blue sky, as though the arrangement had been set directly into the open landscape. Charles Conder painted this scene in oil in 1891. Conder was an Australian painter who also held British citizenship, and his notable work includes A holiday at Mentone. The piece entered the Art Gallery of New South Wales through a purchase made with assistance from Katies.
Where it works
