Story

A dark eggplant rests beside green leaves and pale squash blossoms, set against a plain background. Charles Demuth made this watercolor, using opaque and transparent washes over graphite, in 1927. The piece entered the Wadsworth Atheneum through the Sumner Collection Fund.
