Story

A small house with a dark roof sits tucked among garden beds, where red, white, and yellow flowers bloom thickly under an overcast sky. This oil painting dates from 1873 and comes from Claude Monet, a French artist associated with Impressionism. The work entered the National Gallery of Art as a gift honoring the museum's fiftieth anniversary. Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926, also painted Haystacks.
