Story
Mounted riders cluster in a green valley, chalk cliffs and stretches of forest rising behind them. Their horses stand loosely grouped, poised but still, under an open sky. The composition suggests anticipation before movement begins. Edgar Degas created this piece in 1886. Degas (1834–1917) was a French artist associated with Impressionism, also known for After a Bath. Woman Drying the Back of her Neck.
