Story

Fifteen marine organisms spread across a black background, each one symmetrical and rendered in gold, orange, blue, and green tones. The sea creatures seem to glow against the dark field, their forms echoing one another in careful arrangement. This illustration of Ascidiacea was created in 1904 by Ernst Haeckel, a German biologist who lived from 1834 to 1919 and worked as a botanist and botanical collector within the German Empire.
