Story
Two seated figures appear in pink and brown garments, linked by a string, placed against a soft blue backdrop with an equestrian portrait hanging above them. The arrangement feels deliberate, almost theatrical, as if posed for a private occasion. The work is rendered in oil on canvas laid down on board, completed in 1923. It was painted by Florine Stettheimer (1871–1944), an American artist who also worked as a costume designer and designer.
