Story
A quiet harbor fills the scene, with sailboats and a steamer resting near rocky cliffs and clustered buildings. The water, sky, and stone surfaces are built from countless small dots of green, blue, and earthy color, giving the whole composition a shimmering, textured calm. Painted in oil on canvas in 1888, the work reflects Georges Seurat's pointillist technique within the Neo-impressionist movement, a method he helped define as a French painter.
