Story
A bright yellow pineapple marked with a black grid sits at the center of a swirl of organic shapes in blue, green, orange, red, and purple, scattered across the composition like decorative cutouts. The piece is a pochoir plate titled Codomas, made in 1947 for the illustrated book Jazz. Its maker, Henri Matisse (1869–1954), a French artist, worked within Fauvism, bringing bold color harmony to this striking page.
