Story

A fair-haired child in a blue dress stands outdoors, sheltered beneath the spreading branches of a tall tree, with a garden setting opening behind her. The scene renders a moment from Lewis Carroll's story of a girl who meets a grinning cat. It is a colour lithograph. The artist, John Tenniel (1820–1914), was a British caricaturist and graphic artist, also recognized for his notable work, Dropping the Pilot.
