Story

A young girl in a blue dress tilts her head upward, startled by a wide, grinning cat settled on a tree branch above her. The scene unfolds in a wooded setting rendered in soft greens and browns, giving the forest a quiet, muted atmosphere. The illustration depicts a scene from Alice in Wonderland: The Cheshire Cat. John Tenniel, a British caricaturist and graphic artist (1820–1914), also created Dropping the Pilot.
