Story

Outside a stately building framed by trees, a frog dressed in red military uniform passes a letter to a fish wearing blue uniform. The exchange appears formal, almost ceremonial, as if some royal errand is underway between the two creatures. This image is a colour litho, created as an illustration for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. The artist, John Tenniel (1820–1914), was a British caricaturist and graphic artist, also known for Dropping the Pilot.
