The Fruit Bowl

Story

A fruit bowl breaks apart into angular planes and overlapping facets, rendered in green, brown, orange, white, and black. The forms interlock so the bowl and fruit seem built from shifted, geometric fragments rather than a single continuous view, giving the still life an abstract, constructed quality. The piece is called The Fruit Bowl, made by Juan Gris (1887–1927), a Spanish artist associated with cubism.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to media rooms and dining rooms, and to restaurants, in a vertical format.
