Story

A river valley opens beneath a soft, warm-and-cool sky, with wildflowers scattered across the foreground and rolling hills studded with trees stretching into the distance. The scene captures a quiet stretch of land near San Antonio. Julian Onderdonk painted this in oil in 1918, working within the Impressionist tradition. The piece entered the San Antonio Museum of Art as a gift from Mr. and Mrs. I.L. Ellwood.
