Story
A pair of hummingbirds hangs in the air near blossoming plants, set against a hazy tropical scene with palm trees and soft, earthy tones. The image was made as a chromolithograph finished with hand-applied oil paint on paper, dated 1864. Its creator, Martin Johnson Heade (1819–1904), was an American painter and traveler associated with the Hudson River school and Luminism, held today at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
