Story
A Venetian canal unfolds with gondolas gliding past buildings and small groups of figures gathered along the water's edge, rendered in soft browns, greens, and blues. This scene was painted in watercolor on paper in 1909 by Maurice Brazil Prendergast (1858–1924), an American artist. His work is associated with both the Ashcan School and Post-impressionism, and he is also known for the painting Autumn.
